Location 5 University Avenue, Albany
This project was the development of two adjoining greenfield land blocks, the northern block
(approximately 3.5 hectares) and the southern block (6.5 hectares) - bound by Albany Highway (a major arterial
carrying over 20,000 vpd) to the north and streams to the east, west and south, and Massey University to the
east and south east of the site.
Stage 1 involved the following,
- Bulk Earthworks stripping of over 20,000m3 of topsoil and the shift of over 45,000m3 cut to waste and 25,000m3 cut to fill, with cuts ranging between 1m to 5m, and fill depths between 1m to 4m. The northern block included a 10m high cut slope.
- Over 2,000m of 10 types of timber pole and rail retaining walls were constructed across the site for the house platforms with heights ranging from 300mm to 3.6m. Other walls included Type A3 (104m of deadman beams, 89m of walers and 48 x 12m long anchors) and 467m of Keystone block walls, 200mm to 1.6m high.
- Civils Works including rain gardens, detention tanks, a Stormfilter unit and a gross pollutant trap), wastewater and water reticulation, utility services ducts and installation, streetlighting, hard and soft landscaping, roading (over 460m of two lane roads), JOALs, footpaths, carparking and installation of a new signalised intersection to tie-in with the existing signalised intersection on Albany Highway.
Stage 2 has also involved similar works (e.g. earthworks, large scale retaining walls, drainage, reticulation,
services, street lights, roading, concrete works and landscaping) as well as a Line Valve chamber over an existing
concrete lined steel Watercare bulk transmission watermain.
The contract works were delivered to the agreed timeframes and agreed budget whilst meeting the required quality standards (with March Cato Developments also undertaking their own testing prior to witness testing).
Maintaining amicable relationships with the wider community has been a significant focus for our project team, with successful outcomes particularly for works on the highway, and high traffic volumes entering / exiting the site whilst working in close proximity to Albany Senior High School and Massey Child Care Centre.
a Pedestrian Bridge and Staircases were constructed to tie both Stage 1 & Stage 2 together over a planted Gully.
